Sheriff’s Operations Center grand opening ceremony 1 p.m. December 19

December 1, 2022 – Flagler County is hosting a grand opening ceremony at 1 p.m. Monday, December 19, for the new Sheriff’s Operations Center, located at 61 Sheriff EW Johnston Drive off Commerce Parkway in Bunnell. The public is cordially invited to attend.

“It was two years ago almost to the day that we held the official groundbreaking for this beautiful facility,” said Flagler County Board of County Commission Chair Greg Hansen. “Everybody – our staff, the Sheriff’s Office, the architect, the construction contractor, and the Clerk of Courts – has been dedicated to completing this project as quickly as possible.”

The Flagler County Sheriff Operations and District III Building is two stories, totaling 51,615 square feet, that cost about $20 million to design and build. It is situated very near the Government Services Complex on 8.41 acres, which provides ample space for the 6,298 square foot purchasing and logistics building that cost $1.3 million.

“This new building will allow us to better serve our community and have a more efficient, effective, and reliable building for our employees to work from for decades to come,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “I am grateful for the Board of County Commissioners, County Administrator Heidi Petito and the design and construction team for working together to make this day possible.”

Tours will be given of main building which includes a 2,760 square foot multipurpose training room, administrative offices, conference spaces, interview rooms, crime scene laboratories, evidence storage, vehicle evidence processing with a vehicle lift, and a sally port. Support spaces include, restrooms, storage rooms, copy and work areas, a central break room, locker rooms, as well as a physical agility space.

“This is a big day, not only for the Sheriff’s Office but the entire community, as the Sheriff’s Office has been spread out across the county,” Petito said. “It’s better all the way around to have these critical public safety operations centralized.”

The architect – ADG (Architects Design Group), Winter Park – has worked on more than 350 public safety projects throughout Florida and the United States. It has worked on several of those projects with the construction contractor – Ajax out of Jacksonville.
