As of the end of the day Thursday, October 13, 2022, the City of St. Augustine Solid Waste Division reported a collection total of 992 cubic yards (54 loads) of yard debris and 1,170 cubic yards (38 loads) of construction and demolition debris, for a total of 92 loads, or 2,162 total cubic yards. This is equivalent to 584 tons, or nearly 1,200 pounds.
Similarly, the city’s contractor, DRC Emergency Services (DRC), reported a collection total of 2057 cubic yards (70 loads) of yard debris and 1,649 cubic yards (56 loads) of construction and demolition debris, for a total of 126 loads, or 3,700 total cubic yards. This is equivalent to 5,200 tons, or nearly 10.4 million pounds.
“We truly appreciate everyone’s efforts to work with us to move parked vehicles in the street, and to segregate their debris piles – it makes a huge difference in the efficiency of recovery,” observed Solid Waste Manager Olivia Smith. “And because of this, we are making noticeable progress with collections. We realize there are still areas that need attention, so we appreciate your patience during these passes. Between our own Solid Waste staff and the contractor crews, we feel confident that at this pace we will get the job done within weeks and won’t quit until it has all been collected!”
The first pass of construction/demolition and household goods is complete citywide, including Anastasia Island and mainland neighborhoods.
While city Crews are focused on collection of bags, cans, smaller piles of brush and piles in space-restraint areas, DRC continues to work daily through the heavily impacted neighborhoods, focused on vegetative collection.
Recycling drop-off centers remain open 24/7, and are free of charge for residents who would like to bring recyclables to those locations:
- 601 Riberia Street - end of Riberia by Solid Waste Department and Wastewater Plant.
- North City – by the Las Palmas condos on San Marco.
- Red Cox Drive by the Soccer Field, behind RB Hunt Elementary School
The city’s street sweeper has cleared 271 yards of roadway debris and continues to be diverted as a trail vehicle for contractors, cleaning up the large amounts of roadway debris scraps that remain once the piles are removed.
