Sound the Alarm - Save a Life!

Red Cross, St. Augustine Fire Department, and St. Johns County Fire Rescue join forces for smoke alarm installation event

On Saturday, June 25, the American Red Cross will bring the Sound the Alarm program to West Augustine. With support from the St. Augustine Fire Department and St. Johns County Fire Rescue, the Red Cross will install free smoke alarms for local families vulnerable to home fires.

Most of us don’t realize we have just two minutes to escape a home fire — which is the nation’s most frequent disaster. That’s why local fire departments are partnering with American Red Cross to prepare families to act quickly through the Home Fire Campaign. Since launching the campaign in 2014, this campaign helped save at least 1,275 lives across the country by installing free smoke alarms and helping families create escape plans. This critical work has helped make more than 982,000 households safer in at-risk communities.

  •  WHAT:            Sound the Alarm will kick off with remarks and volunteer training, followed by free smoke alarm installations by the Red Cross at area homes, while St. Augustine Fire Department, St. Johns County Fire Rescue, and volunteer teams discuss home fire safety with families.
  • WHERE:          The corner of Thomas St. and S. Rodriguez St. in St. Augustine.
  • WHEN:            Saturday, June 25th at 10am
