Flagler County 3rd Grade Reading Scores Decline, Again

For the second time in as many years, Flagler County’s 3rd grade reading scores declined, this time to its lowest level since 2016.

According to the most recently released data from the Florida Department of Education, 58% of Flagler County 3rd graders were reading at grade-level this past school year. Although reading scores declined only one percentage point (students performed at 59% in 2021) this year, the most recently scores represent the lowest rate earned by Flagler County 3rd graders since 2016.

It is worth noting that the statewide 3rd grade reading scores also declined, in addition to those of our surrounding counties. Flagler County is tied for 12th-best school system performance, when compared to other countywide school districts.

The Chamber has been tracking Flagler County education performance data since our inception, as the business community gets the end-result of the local education system.
