Tree Canopy Enhancement Program returns

On Wednesday, June 1, the City of St. Augustine will launch its second annual Tree Canopy Enhancement Program, allowing homeowners located within City limits to request a tree, provided free of charge by the City, to be planted within the right-of-way adjacent to their property or on private property.

Homeowners can apply online starting June 1 until August 31, or until quantity limits are met, choosing from eight available tree species, including: Live Oak, Red Cedar, East Palatka Holly, Sand Live Oak, Redbud, Yaupon Holly, Simpson’s Stopper, Winged Elm. City staff will review applications and conduct a site assessment to verify the requested tree fits the available space.  Final application selections will be made in September and trees will be planted November through February.  After a tree is planted, it is the responsibility of the property owner to care for and maintain the tree.
