On Friday, Congressman Michael Waltz (FL-06) received the MG Ronald O. Harrison Distinguished Service Award from the National Guard Association of Florida in St. Augustine, FL. The award, established in 2003, honors individuals who have made exceptionally outstanding contributions to the Florida National Guard over an extended period of time. It is named after MG Ronald O. Harrison, who served as the Adjutant General of the Florida National Guard from 1992 until his retirement in 2001.

Rep. Waltz was joined by David Scott, a retired astronaut and Air Force colonel who flew missions on Gemini 8 and Apollo 9 and served as Spacecraft Commander on Apollo 15. Mr. Scott was also promoted to honorary Brigadier General.

In accepting the award, Congressman Waltz expressed his appreciation: "I am deeply honored to receive the MG Ronald O. Harrison Distinguished Service Award and to be recognized by the National Guard Association of Florida. The work that the National Guard Association of Florida does to fight for its members is invaluable, and I am thankful to have played a part in supporting those who serve our great state and country. Having served 22 years in the National Guard and 5 years in the U.S. Army, I am immensely proud to continue advocating for those who wear the uniform and protect our freedoms."

Congressman Waltz sits on the House Armed Services Committee and is Chairman of the Subcommittee on Readiness.
