School Board Approves Hurricane Make-up Day

Flagler Schools students will wrap up the first semester of the 2022-23 school year on Friday, March 17th.

On Tuesday, December 20th, the Flagler County School Board voted unanimously to designate the third Friday in March as the make-up day for instructional time lost due to last month’s Hurricane Nicole, in which the schools were closed.

While there were four possible days under consideration, the District Calendar Committee, comprised of parents, teachers, administrators, and District staff, was mindful of holiday schedules families may have already planned around that time period. For that reason, the Committee recommended to the School Board using March 17th as an instructional day, rather than as a Teacher Work Day, as previously scheduled. The School Board took a formal vote at the regularly scheduled School Board meeting Tuesday night after briefly discussing the matter at its Workshop session earlier that day.
