Hurricane Ian Had Minimal Impact on Local Jobs
Flagler County’s unemployment rate increased from 3% in September 2022 to 3.2%, according to the October 2022 data release from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.
“Thankfully Hurricane Ian did not have a significant impact on local jobs,” said Greg Blosé, President & CEO of the Palm Coast-Flagler Regional Chamber of Commerce. “Flagler County did see an increase in the number of unemployed residents and a slight decline in the number of local jobs in October 2022. Overall Flagler weathered Hurricane Ian well, from an economic perspective.”
Blosé continued, “Flagler County typically sees an increase in unemployment during the colder, non-tourism months. Looking ahead, the Chamber will continue to monitor national, state and local economic data in reference to a potential recession in 2023. Unfortunately, inflation remains historically high and Floridians outlook on the economy remains dim, according to the latest Florida consumer sentiment data.”
The number of Flagler County residents that are employed (either working in this county or another county) decreased from 49,562 workers in September 2022 to 49,316 in October 2022, a decline of 246 residents.
The number of unemployed job-seeking residents in Flagler County increased to 1,604 in October 2022, an increase of 74 residents from last month’s report.
The Flagler County labor force slightly declined to 50,920 residents in October 2022.
