NextUp: Flagler Hosts Inaugural Meeting

NextUp: Flagler, an initiative of the Palm Coast-Flagler Regional Chamber, hosted its inaugural meeting on Thursday, October 20th at Florida Power & Light’s offices on SR-100. Designed for emerging business leaders, NextUp: Flagler seeks to help them connect with peers, engage in philanthropic/charity projects and meet with established business leaders, who will provide guidance and insight based on their career experience.

Attendees heard from FPL’s Geoff West, who shared his expertise on solar energy and FPL’s planned 2045 carbon-neutral energy program. Mr. West showed videos of FPL destroying old energy production facilities, and outlined new solar projects that will replace them. One such solar farm project is happening on the Flagler/Putnam County border, where 261,000 solar panels are expected to be installed in the near future. The Chamber advocated for support of the solar farm’s passage before the Flagler County Board of County Commissioners, which unanimously supported the project.

Looking ahead, as Flagler County’s population continues to grow, it’s important to diversify our energy portfolio and prepare for a future that relies more on the sun, solar panels and batteries, as opposed to burning coal and oil to generate energy for our growing region.
