Presentations will be made at Commission’s April 25 meeting at 5:00pm
On Monday, April 25, 2022, the St. Augustine City Commission will recognize St. Johns County high schools graduating seniors for their leadership and service to school, community, and to other students.
The 2022 Citizenship Awards presentation will take place at the beginning of the regularly scheduled City Commission meeting at 5:00pm in The Alcazar Room of City Hall, located at 75 King St. The meeting is open to the public and will be streamed live online at www.CityStAugTV.com. The meeting will be available on-demand online the day following the ceremony.
Award recipients are selected by each participating school and receive a commemorative plaque, a city lapel pin, and $200 to assist with further educational endeavors.
The 2022 Citizenship Award recipients are:
Leah Crenshaw, Creekside High School: Member of National Honor Society’s Executive Council, Junior Ladies President, Rho Kappa Honor Society Historian, Officer of Creekside’s Crazies Club, and member of Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society, the National English Honor Society, Link Crew and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Leah plays basketball for the Lady Knights. She is in the Academy of Emerging Technology for Cybersecurity and has earned three industry certificates.
Margaret Dykstra, Ponte Vedra High School: Class of 2022 President of the School Council and Hugs Across the Country, and Team Captain of the Chinese Competition team. She is a member of the National Chinese Honor Society, National Honor Society, National Science Honor Society and National History Honor Society.
Margaret is a member of the Athletic Leadership Council, Youth Leadership St. Johns, and Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society. She is captain of her cross-country team and has been on the team since her freshman year.
Khush Gandhi, Allen D. Nease High School: Class of 2022 Vice-President, Battalion Leader for the nationally recognized Nease Navy Junior ROTC Unit; he served as Mayor at Boy’s State and is Vice-President of the National Honor Society.
Khush has an interest in pursuing local and global affairs.
Jose Giron-Reyes, Florida School for the Deaf & Blind - Blind High School: Member of the Debate team, Drama club, Social Dance club, Creative Writing club and the Young Life Club. He participates in goal ball and is one of 6 goal ball team players to win nationals, bringing home a gold medal for FSDB.
Jose translates Spanish to English for different community groups and has learned American Sign Language to communicate with the with the elementary students when he volunteers in the deaf department classrooms. Jose would like to pursue political science after graduation.
Jaycob Jackson, St. Augustine High School: Member of the St. Augustine High School Swim team, Lacrosse Team, and Kiwanis Kids. Jaycob is also a tutor, and he has amassed 544 volunteer hours. This includes countless lunch-hours tutoring fellow students in geometry, in addition to volunteering for the Police Athletic League and St. Johns Parks and Recreation Department. He is involved with local youth groups and coaches 34 sports.
Jaycob is a mentor for the Deans office as well as a peer pal for the school staff. Jacob plans to attend Florida State University where has been accepted and will study mechanical engineering.
Lauren Jackson, St. Joseph Academy: President of Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society, Historian of Veterans Heritage Project, a member of National Honor Society, the Interact club, as well as being a Cheerleader.
Lauren is an after-school tutor, a School Ambassador for the admissions office and she is an altar server and her church.
Emily Martin-Willott, Pedro Menendez High School: Co-founder of the nationally award-winning school newspaper: the Falcon Flyer, secretary of National Honor Society, Leader of the Impact Committee in the National Honor Society of Dance Arts, and four-year member of the varsity tennis team.
Emily is a member of Key Club, Athletic Leadership Council, RUFF club, and Film Club, and she volunteers daily in the school guidance department as an intern.
Logan Smith, St. Johns Technical High School: Logan is an active student at St. Johns Technical High School, participating in the Water program as well as many field trips. He volunteers at Anastasia Baptist Church and helps with the technology team. Logan currently works at Publix.
