TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® HOSTS MOVERS FOR MOMS® COLLECTION DRIVE AT JACKSONVILLE ZOO TO HELP MOTHERS IN SHELTERS
Donors on April 2 will receive Winn-Dixie coupon and chance to win Zoo experience
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (March 24, 2022) — To ensure moms in crisis receive the love and appreciation they deserve this Mother’s Day, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® is partnering with Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens and Winn-Dixie to host a Movers for Moms® collection drive on Saturday, April 2.
From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., the Jacksonville moving company will collect essential care items for women staying at local shelters. Each person who brings three non-perishable food or two full-size toiletry items will be entered to win a VIP Behind-the-Scenes Experience at the Zoo and a $25 gift card to Winn-Dixie. The first 300 guests to donate will also receive a $5 coupon to Winn-Dixie.
All items collected will be matched by TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® and Winn-Dixie and delivered to three shelters-Hubbard House, Betty Griffin Center and Quigley House. The items will be delivered in time for Mother’s Day to women who may be forced to live in the shelters because of domestic abuse or homelessness.
TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® is celebrating their 25th Anniversary in the first coast region by trying to collect 25,000 items during their Movers for Moms® collection drive during the month of April with delivery to the local shelters on or before Mother’s Day. St. Johns County Schools as well as local business are participating.
“When survivors and their children come through the doors of the Hubbard House shelter, they have often escaped life-threatening domestic violence with very few belongings and limited resources. In large part because of the generosity of the community, we are able to meet their needs, supporting them while they work toward safety and healing,” said Chief Development Officer Kristi Brandon. “Movers for Moms is so important because it allows the community a convenient and meaningful way to show support for survivors by supplying essentials. It also reduces Hubbard House’s costs, so we can put funds towards other critical areas of service.”
Heartbreaking statistics from the Domestic Violence Resource Center state that one in every three women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime, and an estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year. According to a national study from the from the New York Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence, approximately 25 percent of homeless women are homeless because of violence in the home.
Movers for Moms® is a national program that reached 45 states and collected more than 233,000 items in 2021. In its 15-year program history, more than 1 million items have been donated to shelters supporting women.
