City of St. Augustine issued the following announcement on February 10.
Mobility Fee would go into effect May 17
On Monday, February 14, during the regularly scheduled City Commission meeting, Planning and Building Director Amy Skinner will present a proposed ordinance that, once approved, would go into effect on May 17, 2022, implementing the current Mobility Plan and establishing a Mobility Fee as defined in the Transportation and Mobility Element of the Comprehensive Plan.
The Planning and Zoning Board (PZB) held three special meetings in 2021 and 2022 to review the ordinance, ensuring that funds could be collected and spent citywide, that there was an appeals process established in the ordinance and that the process for developers to provide mobility infrastructure was transparent. This culminated in PZB approving the final ordinance that was carried to the City Commission for consideration.
The Mobility Plan consists of four distinct plans that include parking and shuttle alternatives, pedestrian and bicycle improvements that will aid in the reduction of vehicular traffic and congestion in the downtown area, and complete street design recommendations to improve quality of life and livability conditions for residents. The Plan recognizes both citywide and regional mobility alternatives.
The Mobility Fee will be a one-time fee imposed for any new residential or non-residential development and redevelopment activity that requires a building permit, results in increased use of the existing property, and impacts the City’s transportation infrastructure.
