City of Augustine issued the following announcement on September 29.
Water quality will not be affected
The City of St. Augustine is extending the pilot study to test the effectiveness of discontinuing the use of chloramines (ammonia) in the City’s water treatment process. The original study that began on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 was scheduled to conclude in early October. It has been extended 90 additional days and will now be completed January 10, 2022.
During the pilot study, the City will discontinue the use of the ammonia feed system and utilize only free chlorine for disinfection. This process is similar to the regular adjustment periods conducted throughout the year.
Please note, City utility customers may continue to notice a slight change in the taste of their water, but the quality of the water is still not affected.
