County of Flagler issued the following announcement on August 16.
August 16, 2021 – National Association of Counties (NACo) President Larry Johnson on August 13 appointed Flagler County Board of County Commissioners Vice Chair Joe Mullins and GIS Manager Darlene Pardiny to three separate committees “to build a talented and committee leadership team for NACo.”
Mullins was appointed to the Membership Standing Committee and the Rural Action Caucus.
“I truly am honored and didn’t see that coming,” Mullins said of being appointed to two additional committees. He also serves on the Community, Economic, and Workforce Development Steering Committee. “I will do my best to represent Flagler County, and Florida, providing the strongest voice possible.”
Johnson wrote in his letters to Mullins and Pardiny that his presidential initiative is intended to highlight Technology, Health, Readiness, Infrastructure, Vulnerable Populations, and Economic Opportunities (THRIVE).
Pardiny was appointed to the Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) Subcommittee.
“I am very excited about this appointment,” she said. “I was encouraged to apply by my supervisor (Jarrod Shupe) and Mr. Cameron (former County Administrator).”
Pardiny and her team were honored in May by NACo with a 2021 Achievement Award for the “UGov Flagler App featuring The Flagler Virtual Reporter” in the category of Information Technology. It was awarded for providing 24/7 problem reporting, road closure information, as well as a community key that provides information such as garbage collection days, school zones, voting districts, and tropical weather evacuation zones. It is available through the county’s website.
The application, which launched on February 14, 2021 as a Valentine’s Day gift to the public, is available as a free download for both iPhone and Android platforms after nearly two years of development by the county’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team, part of IT (Innovation Technology). Besides the Flagler Virtual Reporter, features of the UGOV Flagler app include: event notifications; a community calendar; an FAQ; access to the county’s website and social media; the ability to email photographs; a community gallery; about us; and, contact us.
“It’s been a good year,” Pardiny said. “I am passionate about GIS, and I look forward to being part of the discussions that will advance this work for the betterment of our communities across the country.”
