August 5, 2022 – Flagler County officials want beachgoers to be aware that equipment and sand will be staged at Jungle Hut Park, beginning as early as August 10 for a Hammock Dunes Shoreline Management Committee dune repair project set to begin on August 15 and conclude by August 30. This is a private project and not a county project.
“The wooden walkover will still be accessible to users and if they head north on the beach, it shouldn’t be problematic,” said Parks and Recreation Supervisor Craig Lenniger. “A portion of the parking lot may have equipment on it. The work is being done south of the park.”
The repair project covers about 1500 feet of the north end of the Hammock Dunes shoreline. As with past dune-repair projects, contractors will use a portion of the Jungle Hut Park area to stage equipment and sand, and as the access point to get equipment on to the beach.
The necessary permits for this work have been secured from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and US Army Corps of Engineers.
“There will be signage and fencing up in the area to keep people out of the construction area for their own safety,” Lenniger said. “Also, there will be no horse access at Jungle Hut to the beach during that time. The only access point for horses will be MalaCompra Park. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience.”
Beachgoers also have the option of using one of Flagler County’s other beach access parks, such as: Bay Drive Park, 30 Bay Drive; MalaCompra Park, 115 MalaCompra Road; Old Salt Park, 200 16th Road; River to Sea Preserve, 9805 N. Oceanshore Boulevard; or, Varn Park, 3665 N. Oceanshore Boulevard.
