City of St. Augustine issued the following announcement on November 23.
Hold onto your used cooking oil
Offices for the City of St. Augustine will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 25 – 26 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Solid waste collection will remain on regular schedule.
Be sure to hold onto your used cooking oil. The City will hold another recycling event on Wednesday, January 5. For more information, visit HERECity offices closed for Thanksgiving Holiday.
Parking in the Historic Downtown Parking Facility will be free on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 25. City owned parking lots and on-street parking is free on all national holidays, such as Thanksgiving Day, except for the Castillo de San Marcos. Drivers are urged to confirm if a lot is owned by the City and not a private operator, as many of those lots have strict towing policies. Parking will be enforced for all vehicles parked illegally, including in areas reserved for delivery, franchised sightseeing vehicles and taxis, or vehicles on sidewalks or against yellow curbs. Please note, regular parking fees will resume on Friday, November 26.
In addition, the St. Augustine Fire Department would like to offer the following kitchen fire safety tips:
- Stay in the kitchen anytime you are broiling food or cooking on the stovetop
- Always keep children at least three feet from the stove
- Keep the countertops around the stove free of clutter and combustible materials
- Make sure your turkey is completely thawed before dropping it in the oil
- If you do have a grease fire, never use water as a method of extinguishment.
